Lynyrd Skynyrd were totally awesome – Sweet Home Alabama raised the roof.
I was in a fashion scrum this week – struggling in a crowd to get my hands on the latest designs… not, not shoes. T-shirts.
Specifically a Lynyrd Skynyrd concert T-shirt.
The guy in front of me, successful in getting an XX-Large of his chosen design, said to me .. ‘I have the T-shirt for every tour they’ve done… and I’ve been to every tour too.’
Cheers for that man – he totally gets the idea of gig T-shirts.
You must never buy them online. Or at a shop. You must buy them at the gig – it’s a badge of honour.
It says to everyone who sees you wear it – I was there!
So, to celebrate that man’s insight – I thought I’d show you a few favourites from my wardrobe. Every single one of them purchased in the correct manner – at the gig.
First – the Skynyrd shirt – not exactly girlie, but it makes me remember their spectacular rendition of Free Bird.Much more girlie – this lovely Africa as butterfly shirt from the amazing Angelique Kidjo – who first turned me on to African Blues musicThe home of the Blues – Clarkesdale Mississippi – where the Shack Up Inn has a revolving door of fab musicians in an all-night jam session.Just up the road in Memphis – all right, it wasn’t a gig, but Elvis was in the building.I don’t usually but T-shirts with skulls on them – but this was too pretty to refuse. The Dead playing upstate New YorkAnd how pretty is this – from a gig with the amazing Robert Plant in New York City.A play rather than a concert – Marvin the Paranoid Android from the stage version of Hitchhikers guide – featuring the fab Neil Gaiman
And last, but my no means least, I have to show you this. It’s the T-shirt I had made for my latest book – The Wild One. I won’t be selling them – but will be giving them away from time to time at events where I am speaking. Although I am definitely keeping one for myself.
Aren’t they lovely… front and back designed by the fabulous webmaster John using my equally fabulous Choc Lit covers.
