Roll on snow – I want to wear this lovely cowl.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

It\u2019s a while since I\u2019ve posted a knitting blog \u2013 and not for the reason you are thinking.<\/p>\n

Here in the northern hemisphere, summer is gone and WINTER IS COMING \u2013 <\/strong>cue portentous music (thank you George R R Martin).<\/p>\n

I didn\u2019t stop knitting in summer. I knitted my heart out \u2013 and made not one but two projects which\u2026 I hated.<\/p>\n

One of the great things about any creative project is \u2026 if it doesn\u2019t work out you can have another go. Unravel the knitting, edit the story, paint over a canvas. And that\u2019s what I did.<\/p>\n

There was nothing wrong with the yarn. Or even the ideas. I just hadn\u2019t managed to get it quite right.<\/p>\n

I discovered it takes about an hour and a half to unravel and re-wind the yarn from about three months of knitting.<\/p>\n

That done, I set about two new projects\u2026 One of the yarns I instantly reknitted\u2026 and I now have a lovely cowl made of wool bought in Nundle, one of Australia\u2019s oldest sheep and wool producing regions.<\/p>\n

The cowl is simple moss stitch knitted in the round. It worked perfectly with the chunky Nundle yarn<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The other yarn I set aside. I need to think about that. Instead I started working with some wool purchased on a trip to Wales\u2026 and came up with a lovely, snuggly warm\u00a0cropped cardi\u00a0knitted in Rowen Cocoon.<\/p>\n

Another bulky yarn, but very soft.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

I love the way the rib sits at the back.<\/p>\n

The horizontal and vertical rib works so well together.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

I have a rule. I can\u2019t start something new until I finish something AND put it into use. I plan to wear this black\u00a0cardi to a meeting this week. Thus, I am allowed to start something new.<\/p>\n

I’ve had this lovely pin for ages – and it works perfectly here.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

So \u2013 over the next couple of days I will be\u00a0diggng through my huge stash of patterns. And my even bigger stash of yarn looking for the next project\u2026 that\u2019s almost (but not quite) as exciting as starting a new book.<\/p>\n
