Purr-fect<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Just before we left New York City in November\u2026 the Christmas lights were starting to go up on 5th<\/sup> Avenue.<\/p>\n

The big stores were already unveiling their Christmas windows \u2013 some of which were pretty spectacular.<\/p>\n

It was all very pretty \u2013 and very much part of the pre-holiday shopping frenzy.<\/p>\n

The cats sitting on the Cartier’s balcony were lovely, but\u00a0it was pretty hard to ignore the commercial side of the whole thing.<\/p>\n

These are displays designed to bring you into a store and open your wallet.<\/p>\n

Last night, I went for a walk through the streets around my West London home.<\/p>\n

There are lights here too \u2013 of a very different sort.<\/p>\n

The lights were everywhere – not for one second was I in the darkness.\u00a0<\/p>\n

There was always\u00a0something cheerful twinkling at me.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Some displays were small – nothing like the expensive glitter of NYC.<\/p>\n

A child's delight<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

 <\/p>\n

Some were simple\u2026 or humourous.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I wonder if the local cats are frightened of the reindeer?<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

 <\/p>\n

While others SHOUTED their message\u2026.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

This must have taken almost as much planning as the Bergdorf window<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

 <\/p>\n

It doesn’t really matter how big or small the displays are\u2026 there are no commercial considerations behind these lights. They were put up for no other reason than to spread the festive spirit.\u00a0<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And they made me smile\u2026 they are no doubt making a lot of people smile.<\/p>\n

That is never a bad thing.<\/p>\n
