I\u2019m bouncing around the room today \u2013 absolutely thrilled to learn that I am a finalist in the Sheila Contest <\/a>\u2013 run by the Valley Forge chapter of the Romance Writers of America.<\/p>\n

The contest is for an unpublished manuscript in a genre I\u2019ve never tried before \u2013 paranormal romance.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve always been a big fan of fantasy and sci fi and horror (well \u2013 some horror). Paranormal romance fits right in there. \u00a0I read it \u2013 but didn\u2019t think I would ever write it \u2013 until one day I just did.<\/p>\n

I was working on the first chapters of something else \u2013 and the hero I could see in my head was so dark and strong and damaged. I joked to a friend that perhaps he was a vampire. As soon as I did that, the idea stuck in my head. I couldn\u2019t see him as anything else.<\/p>\n

I rewrote a scene and suddenly I was writing a paranormal romance \u2013 with my heroine trapped on a yacht in the middle of the ocean with this gorgeous, dark, damaged, strong and mysterious man \u2013 who just isn\u2019t human.<\/p>\n

The title for the book came just as quickly\u00a0\u00a0– Graveyard of the Immortals<\/em>.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s challenging to write in a new genre\u2026 and I am loving writing a paranormal.<\/p>\n

The contest winners won\u2019t be announced until June \u2013 but right now, I\u2019m simply thrilled to be a finalist.<\/p>\n

So \u2013 thanks to the lovely people at Valley Forge Romance Writers \u2013 and to the first round judges who said such nice things on their reports. I guess my next job is to keep working on that book\u2026 and make it even better if I can.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
